The Schengen Area has 29 member countries as of 2026. All 29 share a common external border and free movement between them. Time spent in any of the 29 countries counts toward the same 90-day limit in any 180-day period. Four members are not EU countries: Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Bulgaria and Romania joined fully in January 2024. Croatia joined in January 2023. The UK is not in Schengen since Brexit.
